Movie Poster Promo

In our new project we are to make a movie trailer and for that we have to include a poster. The poster i'm gonna create is gonna have the main character Violet hiding behind a tree while her other friends Gretchen, Jasmine, and Katey are seeking for her. This poster is supposed to show my audience that will watch the trailer to think that the main character is probably the one hiding and that something is wrong with her or that she's missing and her other friends are looking for her. Most of the trailer takes place at their friends house Gretchen. They all are having a sleepover and catching up on the latest. In the meantime, the main character is thought to be seen by Gretchen one of the characters.

The title of our movie is called " The Missing ". Each person working on the movie trailer has to make there own movie poster. We get to see who turned out to be the best and we will use that in the beginning of our trailer. On my poster I have a background image of the main character violet. One of her eyes is looking straight forward. Im hoping this will show my audience that the Violet is not normal the way that i'm designing her eye in photoshop. My title is gonna be warped into a photoshop effect giving the poster a little more texture, and weirdness. Something else we have to use in our poster is kerning. Kerning is when is when you adjust the spacing between the text and proportion it differently. This also gives your audience a pleasing result.

Our posters must involve a title that catches our audiences eyes so that they'll have to read it because it pops out so much. The title must need kerning, layer effects so its not boring. With layer effects you can give your title shadows, textures, embosses, etc. You are also supposed to take a picture or have some drawing of maybe a scene that gives an idea of what the movie will be like and add it to your background for your title. This just will give a glimpse of whats going on. On my title I used almost all of the effects to make it seeable.

Proactive or Procrastination?

After a long week of school I like to finish all of my homework right after school. The feeling of having all of my work done is relieving. There is no need for stress or being guilty while having a fun weekend. I learned from my mistakes last year because coming to class with no work done is not fun! I failed my teacher, my parents, and especially me. Knowing that I had time to finish it but was ignoring it till last minute was a bad habit. This year I have set a goal to get it done asap!

Being in a quiet, calm, steady environment helps me focus while doing home work and I get it done faster which gives me more time to have a fun weekend. Life is not about always Procrastinating and parting its about also being successful and a hard worker. If you dont get anything done in life then you will regret it later on in life and wish to live a fulfilled life.

Theres not that much I would change about my work habits because I get things done before theres time to enjoy my weekend. I had to change my work habits last year because I procrastinated a lot. Finally I set a goal to get everything done without wasting time. When i'm older I hope to have a successful job that will support me financially. In order to have a job like that you need to get everything done and set a good habit so people can count one you.

My Visual Poem

Dear Reader,
Our class had a new project for GT. We were to make a poem describing how weve been feeling or just a poem that has an impact on us. My poem is about my sanctuary which is my home, my feelings when im at home, what I see, and do. This makes a impact on me because theres no place like home where you can let free of worries. I also got footage of parts of my house. Something about my sanctuary is its different from all others. The looks, how it was built, and the history behind it.

The special effects on my visual affect it because my home is not a bright, happy home its darker, and cozy so I chose a more vintage, warmer effect. Descriptive titles were also added depending on what my poem would say id add a word that went with it.

I am satisfied on my results because I got to add footage of one of my favorite places in the world. The video was turned on the due day so that was a good thing. I could have made it better by making my clips more bright. Some of them were a little dark.

Finished News Story

Hello readers, my team members were Meagan, Lucy, and Ethan. We did a profile story on Ethan's mom. She designs and creates her own bikinis and has her own company it is called "CG Bikinis". Ethan and Meagan brought home a classroom camera home to do the filming. We all worked together to edit the story.

When we finished the final we wished we had more time but we learned that we have to work together. We all know we could have worked together, finished successfully, and done better. Although we can not go back and time and fix it next time we are gonna do the best! I was happy that we finished on time. We are also happy we didn't get disqualified.

Looking back at the critique results I do agree on the scores we got we definitely could have tried harder.

Lessons Learned

Hey readers, The most interesting thing about are Hiki NO project is that we are doing our interview on a Bikini Maker. This is probably going to be the first time someone int he history of Hiki No does a profile story on that. This will have to be an appropriate story. The biggest roadblock are team had to go through was being able to schedule a time for when we can all as a team work together outside of school. Lately only one person has been going outside of school to get the interviews done and all the b-roll. I think the most valuable part of the film making process is getting all the interviews done because with no interviews there is no story.

Even though this is my second year im still able to learn from mistakes. I can still work hard and try my best to give the all my effort. Hiki No no can be kind of challenging because of how much time we have it goes by in one blink. This is a good thing to because in life no matter what job you have there's going to be rushing and trying to get things finished on time. Im learning from Hiki No to get things finished on time and not to procrastinate.

Hiki No Behind The Scenes

So for the first big project in g.t. were going to be put in a group of four. This project is also by Hiki No. We could choose to do two different kinds of videos a News Story about your island or you can do a interview video on anybody on Kauai. We chose to do a video on are members mom who has  a passion of making swimwear. It sounds pretty easy but its harder than it seems we have a hard time communicating and have to work better on that. Another thing we have trouble with is the interview its kind of hard with everyones schedule and trying to fit in shooting b-roll. Besides that we got some nice shots and are hoping to make an excellent video for Hiki No. When the camera is not rolling we are working on are videos with Final Cut Pro or we are working on are Pitch Sheet to guide us for when the cameras is rolling.

One thing I do to help my team is make sure that whatever is not being worked on is what I like to work if theres nothing to do. This helps because there can be some little things that might be forgotten and its not good to have things missing. Another thing I like do do is figure out what everyones schedule is so I can figure out when we all have a day we can just work on our b-roll and interviews.

The Expirement

The experiment was definitely something the teacher has never asked me to do. Me and my class were to go on Photoshop. Their was absolutely no rules we could literally try anything we wanted to. At first, I didn't understand why we were doing this but then I got it. We did it because we could learn by trying out all the tools, the different effects, brushes, and everything else that photoshop provides. When we learn by trying it ourselves we get it better and learn from the mistakes that we made so that when we do have  a project were we have to go on photoshop we know what not to do.

What was good about it was that I got to try out some new things that I didn't use last year and got to see what they could be used to do. It seemed like something super easy to accomplish but it was actually pretty hard because their were no directions and I wasn't used to that I had try out everything and just hope whatever I ended up with it wouldn't be such a disaster. Overall, it was a pretty fun experiment that was helpful and the more we start using photoshop ill get it.

Back to School

Hello world, Summer Break was definitely a summer to remember. I went up to another island, I stayed their for three weeks. I got to see some of my good family and friends that I haven't seen ever since I was little. Each day was crazy we never had a day to rest. Me and my friends would go to all the secret beaches, a inside trampoline area, we went surfing at beach where my foot hit the coral.

Im very proud to be back in school and return as a G.T. student. This is my favorite class because we get to learn a hand full of technical things on gigantic mac computers, and get to put all of our creativity into each project that our teacher Mr.Sandrel gives us and a bonus is I get to sit by one of my best friends. The best memory I had since i'm back in school is when me and a big group of my friends went running onto the middle of the field. We screamed to the top of our lungs,  running and going crazy. I think people could hear us from a mile away.

The biggest challenge lately has been waking up early for school. Hearing my alarm is the worst part I just want to put it on silent and go back to bed. If only school started a little later id be a very happy person. Since that cant happened ill be looking forward to the next summer were I can get all the sleep I want.

This next year of me being a 7th grader will be successful by me going to sleep early so Im able to wake up and eat a full breakfast so I can focus better in all of my classes without getting distracted. I've also learned some lessons from last year it is too always turn in all my assignments before they are due, listen to directions carefully without going ahead unless I know exactly what I'm supposed to be doing, and lastly is too have an extraordinary blast because once were finished with middle school we never come back.

Words of Wisdom

This third quarter in GT, we had a project that was going to be voted for a hiki no project it was called "Words of Wisdom". This was for schools all over Hawaii. We had to have a group of around 4 people. My group had to choose one person that you were related to who was elderly and has wisdom for kids and adults allover. In my group we chose my grandpa who is a Hawaiian Musician on the island of kauai.
Are class was assigned to go out and interview my grandpa out of school and get shots of him playing his instrument and him working with his all his wires, Cd's, and fixing up his bag. During the Interview we had to have a rule of thirds shot so people would get their eyes caught there. This interview could obviously not be blurry at all so on our DSLR cameras we had to focus on me grandpa so that his eyes were crystal clear.
My grandpas wisdom is important because he shows everyone to follow you dreams. You should never give up for anything you are working for. He also shares aloha through telling story when he was a child and from his relatives, especially when he is playing music he shares aloha, and loves putting smiles on peoples faces.

Five Tips for Turning Your Homework on Time

In class, we had to do a project on five tips and we could choose anything we wanted to. Me and my group chose 5 tips on how to turn in your homework on time. We had to go to one of our houses and film different shots of one of our team members working on her homework and turning off things that might distract her. We chose this topic because homework is something not all kids like doing. They rather be hanging out with friends, watching t.v., or going to the beach. So this was a great chance for us to to give out simple tips for getting your homework done without procrastinating. We could have done by communicating better on where we would film, who would take us where, so next time we do a project we would have to make sure to communicate and work together better.

Three Shot Sequences

When creating a great video story you want to have shots in sequence so that the your audience wont lose interest. Especially if you're just showing images that don't go with the story or fit in right the audience want to feel like there apart of the video. If you were making a video on what i do on the weekends it would take way too long to show a video of your whole weekend so that why we put everything in sequences so you understand whats going on and it doesn't take up too much time.

Here, in this video it show a three shot sequence so it starts off at a wide shot, a medium shot, and then a close up shot of me picking up my binder. This is better than just one shot of me grabbing my binder because its like you get to see me in different spots around me.

Composition Techniques

Turning Your videos and pictures good to great composition video techniques will do the job.
The composition techniques that can be used are rule of thirds, framing, unusual angles, and leading lines.

Rule of thirds helps make an image more dynamic and interesting. It also creates a balance to the image or video without it being so busy.

Framing is composing a frame around your subject this will show depth, gives emphasis to the subject, and grabs viewer's attention. Some examples of creating a frame can be doorways, windows, tunnels, and tree branches. Taking pictures at eye can get boring taking pictures to the next level like finding unusual angles some people want a different perspective. Getting above or below the subject, tilting the camera right or left, getting super close to your object or farther away.

Unusual Angles is my favorite because you can take a picture or a video either down low, up high, to the sides, and make it different from many pictures where its just eye level were it can get boring.

Leading Lines is when you have lines that are leading to the main subject of your video or the picture or you can say its a path for the eye. Some examples for leading lines can be roadways, a river, bridges, and a window.

All About Me

Hello, my name is Nahele Keale, I'm 12 yrs. old and was born on October, 1, 2001 at Castle Memorial Hospital on the Island of Oahu. I lived on Oahu for the first year of my life until I moved to the island of Kauai. My mom and dad didn't want to raise me on Oahu so we moved to a the beautiful, tropical, island of Kauai.

I have no brothers or sisters but I do have 2 Australian Shepard's, 2 sheep and used to have around 50 or more chickens!  The chickens are all gone, but we may be getting more later. My mom is a nurse and my dad is working in Alaska.

I was in  Kapa'a Elementary from Kindergarten to the 5th grade.  This school was a great school with strict but nice teachers who taught me a lot. This is my first year in the G.T. Program as a 6th Grader in Kapaa Middle School.  I really enjoy this school and I don't ever plan on leaving. I'm either going to Kapaa or Kamemeha for High School. I heard a lot of good things about Kamehameha and hope too get in if I go.

Once I am finished with high school I would like to go to a college where I can learn to become an archeologist. Ive been wanting to do this later on because it seems very interesting to dig up ancient artifacts, sculptures, skeletons of bodies and learn about their culture, there life, and how they died. Especially since it involves traveling which is also one of my dreams to do. Traveling is what everybody should do at a certain time in your life and try different food, languages, old buildings, and much more.

Practice Profile Story

The purpose of our practice story was to understand what we were doing for the Hiki No project. This gave us a chance to get to know the Cameras, Lava Mike, to use final cut pro for editing our videos, and to critique the videos so we know what we should and shouldn't do for the " Elders Words of Wisdom" interview. The camera that we were using were very High Tech and had lots of buttons that I had never used on a camera before and now me and my group would know what to do and weren't lost. Lava Mike weren't used in any projects of my first year in the G.T. Program so it made it really exciting to be using something new.

The reason we all chose me was because they knew that I had a hobby of exercising so they decided to do that. Me and them thought this would be a good topic for a practice story. It would help us later on the bigger project. They also knew that I liked talking and I would love to get interviewed just in case I might get interviewed in the future. Then we thought exercising is something great to talk about because it so good for you and it makes you stronger mentally, physically, and you have a chance of living a long life.

Profile Project Progress

Now, for a couple of weeks, we've been working on a project for Hiki No its called "  Elders words of wisdom ". We have a group of four and in the group we choose one of your group members elderly relative. We interviewed my grandfather on how he loves singing and playing hawaiian music and too spread aloha. My grandfather says to follow your dreams and do what you love. Me and my group worked together really well by splitting up the work so that none of us were left out.

Interviewing someone with no b-roll or voice overs can be boring and wont catch your audience. B-roll is very important because whatever the topic that your interviewee is speaking about you can add clips of him/her showing instead of seeing that persons head and them talking. So a question that me and my group chose was what was one of his first instruments that he got and then he said he got an ukulele when he was 10 yrs. old. so for the B-Roll we got a wide, medium, to close up shot of him caring for his ukulele.

Voice overs are narrations that are said through out a interview or documentary. However, when there is a voice over you usually see some b-roll and don't see the person being interviewed. Me and my classmates learned that if you don't have enough b-roll then you can use the person narrator doing the voice overs. It wont be grabbing your audience as much though. If you were just to see a person talking in an interview with no images or B-Roll it will not the as interesting or grabbing as you wan tit to be.

There will always be enough room for improvement . In my class we got to critique all the videos in our class this gave everyone a chance too improve our interviews for our final cut. Our class will have a film festival where some parents, teachers, and workers at our school can see the interviews.

Practice Story Reflection

In the past few days of the Gifted & Talented Program, we have been practicing for a Hiki No project. We had a group of four people and I was the main subject, when we figured out what I was going to be interviewed about which was I like Exercising. We had a transcript paper that would guide the narrator. It was time to make A-roll, and B-roll. So for the A-roll we had me the interviewee, and the interviewer asked me questions what I like about exercising,  the questions were just like any other interview. Once me and my team were finished we started the B-Roll where we had to take footage of me exercising. So that you could see me exercising while I would be interviewed this would help grab our audiences attention.

Once we were finished with all the video work we imported everything to the computer. After that was finished we had too add some voice overs. So we had one member from our group go up to the computer and voice record her. Every class used Cut Pro to edit the video; use the blade tool to cut out footage that wasn't needed, add b-roll, and turn the video good to great. We didn't have much time we were we're goanna get disqualified.

We did not finish exactly but we did learn what we should and shouldn't do for the hiki no project. This was very helpful I got to know the camera, Final Cut Pro,  and the Lava Microphone. If we never did a practice story I think Id be really lost.

Polar Panoramas

These are two of my Polar Panoramas. First me and my class had to research the process of making a Polar Panorama. Then we had to find an interesting spot with a horizon line. This process is similar to the spherical panoramas, we had to take 10-15 photos moving 360 degrees with a 10-15% overlap. When you are finished using PhotoMerge in Photoshop
, then you resize it to be a square image and rotate the image 180 degrees be fore using Polar Coordinates under the distort menu.

Final Photomontages

These are two of my finished photomontage examples inspired by a famous artist and photographer David Hockney, he first created similar images called "Joiners". I created these photomontages by taking multiple pictures using a digital camera. Then I batch- edited them in Adobe Camera Raw. Next, me and my classmates finished up our composite image in a Photoshop.

Magazine Cover

This is my finished magazine cover that i had made in the fall of 2013 at the Kapaa middle school. I made this magazine using Adobe Bridge to label, and Camera Raw to edit the pictures, lastly I finished up in Photo Shop to create the magazine.
